Voltmeters

Operation:

A voltmeter indicates the battery voltage and the general condition of the vehicles electrical charging system. The voltmeter cannot indicate the condition of the battery itself. When wiring the voltmeter, no connection is made to the “S” terminal. Reference the installation instructions for the voltmeter for wiring connections.

Troubleshooting:

The voltmeter is the easiest of all gauges to troubleshoot. The most frequent problem with a voltmeter is that it appears “dead” and is not registering any voltage reading. To test the voltmeter, turn the ignition switch on, and using a test lamp or a multimeter, test for voltage between the “I” and “G” terminals of the voltmeter. If there is no voltage reading the problem is with the wiring to the gauge, if there is a voltage present and the gauge is not reading it, the gauge has malfunctioned.
